So after much angst and fighting in my head of the idea, I finally decided to bite
the bullet and take one of our big gates down. Ever since the boys have been mobile, we have had a large gate up that surrounded our filing cabinets, desk, printer shelf, and bookcase. It has served us very well until about the last 3 weeks. Braeden started climbing over it and not long after, Camden followed! They were constantly throwing toys over it and then whining for them and climbing up it to get papers and whatever else they could reach. Braeden did not like it if I was on the computer or at the desk and he would "yell" at me anytime I was on the "wrong" side of the gate!! Last week I think all I got done was putting the boys in time outs for climbing up the gate and grabbing things and climbing over the gate and sitting at the desk....very frustrating. So Saturday while they were taking a nap, I started cleaning up the desk and reorganizing everything. Fortunately, I had just bought some cord hider, so I got all the cords concealed and out of reach. Needless to say the job turned into an all day/night thing and I was still working on it after they went to bed, but I did get it finished!
Sunday morning was the big test. As soon as they came into the living ro
om, they noticed the gate was gone. They kept saying "uh-oh" and pointing at the computer area. It was cute. So we have been 3 days without the gate and I have to say, they are doing better than I thought they would. They are definitely testing their boundaries with it as they try to touch and grab everything and then look at Chris or I to see if we are going to do anything. I think they know what they aren't supposed to get into, but just want to see what they can get away with. When we are in the room they obviously do a lot better than when we are not. But they are smart little boys and they wait for the opportune time and as soon as we aren't there, they make their move!! So they have been sitting in pretty frequent time outs, but they are starting to get the idea!!
It is so nice to have one of the gates gone and have my living room
look more like a living room again. We are taking baby steps, but that's fine with me as long as we can keep moving in the right direction I will be happy!!! My luck, by the time we get our living room back, we will have another little one to deal with and the whole thing will start all over again!! Oh well, I guess someday I will be wishing that I could have these days back....maybe!!!

Hey you! Glad to see you have two totally normal little boys (and just think, they're not even 2 yet! eeeek!) ;) If you're anything like me, you have now realized that babysitting is totally different than actual motherhood! HA! Dave and I just tell ourselves that our time for a continual "put together" house will happen before we know it and it will be a sad day - cuz it means we are empty nesters. So just enjoy the chaos and let them be kids! That's my opinion and I'm stickin' to it! :) Love to you all!
CONGRATS on regaining your living space!! Now, If I could find a way to keep Bella from moving the furniture to get on counters and such...Just last week, I found her at the microwave trying to make her own popcorn!! AHH! ;) Gotta love 'em. See you Saturday! Yay, Parent's Night Out!!
