5 weeks from....well you know where!!

So our story begins sometime at the end of May when Chris and I are shopping at Lowes and happen upon the flooring area. There is a sign up that says $99 for carpet installation for the entire house. Sounds like a great deal, so we decide to jump on it. A couple weeks later, we have our carpet picked out and have decided to recarpet the bedrooms and our basement. Then we wait for the carpet to come in and an installer to come out. Here is where the excitement begins!

WEEK 1: June 17th the installer is supposed to come out for a two day job and install our carpet. So they show up as planned....only "they" are not the people we were told were going to be doing the installing. Long story short here, the wrong installers come out, they are speaking Spanish to each other, I don't know what they are saying and they don't know what they are doing. So Chris has to skip class and come home and call Lowes. So we don't get our carpet installed and we have to wait for the correct installer to come out. This takes about a week! Meanwhile, we have moved all of our belongings from both bedrooms and the basement into our living room!!! What a mess! My mom took the boys home with her and no carpet got put in so they came back and literally had the kitchen and hallway to play in (the wrong installers had already started ripping out the carpet in the boys' room before they left).

WEEK 2: So finally the right people are here and they are moving at a great pace. Before we know it they have all the old carpet out of both bedrooms and have laid all the new carpet in the boys' room except for the fill piece in the closet and they have started laying the carpet in our room. (Oh yeah did I mention my mom took the boys AGAIN!) Everything is going great....until they lay the fill piece down in our room.....its the wrong color!!!! GRRR!!! Okay so we are a little upset, but we understand mistakes happen. Lowes says they will reorder the fill piece and have it rushed...it shouldn't be more than a week and then all they have to do is coordinate a time that the installer can come back out and finish the job (remember this is a job that is only supposed to take 2 days). Chris and I decide to go into Lowes and get some things "straightened out" if you know what I mean! When we left we were feeling pretty good because they had agreed to compensate us fairly for this inconvenience.

WEEK 3: At the end of the 3rd week (July 3rd to be exact) the installer is back to finally finish the job as the new fill piece had come in. So he gets it out, measures it and cuts it...brings it into the bedroom to lay and guess what.........its the wrong color AGAIN!!!! Can you believe it? We were livid to say the least!!! How hard is it to get the right carpet people? So again we go to Lowes and do some "talking". This time they decided to just reorder all the carpet for our bedroom so it would all be cut off the same roll at the carpet mill. And again they told us they would rush order it and hopefully it would be there in another week. All this time we had been shipping the boys back and forth to my mom's for nothing and when the boys were home they were going crazy because they had nowhere to play and they had to sleep in their pack n plays. It was just a nightmare that never seemed like it was going to end.
WEEK 4: The carpet does not get rushed as we were told it would so we continue to wait. By this time the boys are really unhappy and I'm losing my mind and afraid that if I don't have my house back soon, I'm going to end up at the MHI (Mental Health Institute) in a straight jacket, drugged up and drooling on myself!!! So I packed up the boys and we headed to Waterloo to spend the week at my mom's.

WEEK 5: Finally, July 16th, our carpet is installed and the fiasco is finished!! We were so happy to be done with this whole thing. The bummer is that the excitement of getting new carpet was long gone and we just wanted our house back! On a side note, the carpet they put in our room still wasn't the correct carpet!! It was the right color, but not the same carpet as was in the boys' room. I think it is an upgrade from what we ordered, but we don't care, we are just happy its over!!
